Collection: Cruelty-free makeup

Cruelty-free makeup from clean beauty brands, where the brand states the product is cruelty-free.

Cruelty-free makeup

Every product here is described by its brand as cruelty-free, meaning the finished product and its ingredients aren't tested on animals. Cruelty-free isn't the same as vegan: a cruelty-free product can still contain beeswax, carmine or lanolin. For makeup that is both, shop vegan makeup.

"Cruelty-free" isn't defined by US law. Third-party programs such as Leaping Bunny certify brands that meet their own standards; when a brand holds a certification, we mention it on the product page.

Questions

What does cruelty-free makeup mean?

The brand states that the product and its ingredients are not tested on animals. The term isn't regulated in the US.

Is cruelty-free makeup vegan?

Not always. Cruelty-free is about animal testing; vegan means no animal-derived ingredients. Some products are both, and we tag those in our vegan makeup collection.

How can I check a cruelty-free claim?

Look for third-party certification such as Leaping Bunny, and check the brand's own animal-testing policy.
