Collection: Hyaluronic acid serums

Hyaluronic acid serums from clean beauty brands for hydrated-looking skin.

What hyaluronic acid does

Hyaluronic acid is a humectant: it attracts and holds water. Your skin makes it naturally, and in a serum it draws moisture into the outer layers of skin, which is why skin looks plumper and smoother right after use. It is gentle, and it layers well with nearly everything else in a routine.

How to use it for the best result

  • Apply to damp skin, straight after cleansing or toner. Hyaluronic acid needs water to hold.
  • Seal it in with a moisturizer or face oil, especially in dry or heated rooms, so the water does not just evaporate.
  • Use it morning and night. It pairs well with vitamin C and niacinamide.

Questions

Should I apply hyaluronic acid to wet or dry skin?

Damp skin. Hyaluronic acid holds water, so applying it after cleansing, while skin is still a little damp, and then sealing with moisturizer gives the best result.

Can hyaluronic acid dry out my skin?

In very dry air, a humectant without a moisturizer on top can feel tight. Always follow with a moisturizer or face oil.

Can I use hyaluronic acid with retinol or vitamin C?

Yes. Hyaluronic acid is gentle and layers well with both, and can make actives feel more comfortable.

Is hyaluronic acid good for oily skin?

Yes. It hydrates without oil, so it suits oily and combination skin as well as dry skin.
